Still, look at the renewal rates. NordVPN’s renewal jump is steep — from $3.49 to $12.99/mo. That’s a 3.7x increase. ExpressVPN’s Basic renewal at ~$8.33/mo is gentler but still doubles the intro rate.

And both services are running the same playbook: low intro price, then lock-in at renewal. Still, this is standard industry practice, and I’m not calling it predatory — but it’s information you need before you commit.

Alternatives: What About Open-Source?
